I couldn’t make up my mind so I did both.
I have been a musician for as long as I have been interested in photography, and that started when I was around ten years old. My mother gave me a Kodak Retina camera (without any film) and my father gave my brother Paul and I guitars. I still have mine, though I regrettably left my brother's at a bus stop after school one day. Paul went on without his first guitar, to start iconic 1980s indie band Pop Mechanix and after I had a brief stint as a guitarist with Jordan Luck's soon to be Dance Exponents I left Aotearoa, followed my heart and travelled to the UK to study photography.
Agneu is a deliberate misspelling of my mother's maiden name, Agnew — a name carrying a thread of music and poetry through our family, including a great-great-grand-aunt, Letitia Simpson (née Agnew), a poet in Canada around 1860. I changed the spelling slightly so it wouldn't be confused with the many other Agnews out there, or read as claiming a name that isn't quite mine to use.
