When photography can’t fully express the things I need it to, I turn to music.

Musical vignettes.

On the 1st of August 2025, I decided to see what would happen if I told stories with music. Not abstract soundscapes but actual songs. I drew on a career of observational and lived experience, photographs I've taken, stories I've been told and things I remember.. A musical landscape emerged and after months of writing and recording, songs began to appear, not songs for the radio - more cinematic vignettes. The process, I think, though I don't fully understand why — is very similar to working in the field as a photographer, circling around a subject, refining and adjusting your view until the story or song makes sense. The result is this: Air and Twigs - 8 songs drawn from life.

Listening.

Air and Twigs was sequenced with a loose narrative arc. One song speaking to the next, both thematically and musically. Listen as you choose but if I could suggest - for the optimum listening experience, find yourself a quiet comfortable spot, put on some headphones if available, and have the song book handy to read along. The 50 year old vintage butterflies, each one a companion to a song, have been reborn a second time, albeit faded and beaten, to grace the pages and accompany the music into the abyss.
